Joaquin Phoenix to play Edgar Allen Poe in comeback film
    Chicago Chronicle

    (ANI)

Joaquin Phoenix is set to make a comeback to acting to play iconic American writer and poet Edgar Allen Poe.

The actor had decided to quit acting to launch his rap career.

He has only been seen in a string of bizarre TV interviews of late.

"I couldn't be happier because I am doing a period film. It is a very special challenge because I have to recreate the sound textures of New York in 1854," the Daily Star quoted Oscar winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty, as telling India's Mumbai Mirror.

He added: "It's an adaptation of The Beautiful Cigar Girl by Daniel Stashower and based on an eerie real-life experience of author Edgar Allan Poe which happened just months before his death. Joaquin plays Edgar Allen Poe." (ANI)

Joaquin Phoenix to play Edgar Allen Poe in comeback film

Maybe Joaquin Phoenix will play Poe’s ghost - since he died in 1849 and Resul Pookutty (nice name) said it takes place in 1854. Not sure if this story has any credibility. I’m sick of everyone giving credit to Stashower for a book that is not original. There were a number of books in the 19th century about the murder and Poe. Then in the 1970s, two books really reopened the Mary Rogers case. One if by Raymond Paul and one is by Amy Srebnick. Paul figured out a possible solution to the case that makes a lot of sense. There is also a good graphic novel by Rick Geary. That graphic novel would make a great film. Stashower just came afterwards and reprinted what was already written. I’d love to see Phoenix playing Poe - but Stashower’s book sucks so not if that’s where the script was sourced.
