CBOE has 54% marketshare in quarterly options
(Reuters) — The Chicago Board Options Exchange, the largest U.S. options market, said on Friday its total marketshare in quarterly options volume stands at 54.3% since their July debut in the U.S. options landscape.
CBOE, which launched quarterly options on July 10, said its volume in quarterly options showed strong growth with average daily volume of 38,966 contracts traded last month.
Total industry turnover in these products reached 2.5 million contracts from the July to September period.
Quarterly options expire on the last business day of March, June, September and December as opposed to traditional options which expire on Saturday after the third Friday of the month.
Money managers can use these options as part of their portfolio management strategies at the end of the quarter.
CBOE lists quarterly options on five exchange traded funds including the popular iShares Russell 2000 index Fund and the Standard & Poor's Depositary Receipts/SPDRs or commonly called Spiders.
